Did you know there are over 10.000 waterfalls in Iceland? And only 200 of them have a name. So you'll definitely see enough waterfalls on your roadtrip through Iceland.

But if you are unsure which one should be on your list, check out my top 5 (in no particular order).

My 5 Favorite Waterfalls in Iceland

1. Hraunfossar

I think this is the waterfall where I fell in love with Iceland. I did not know what to expect and the two layered lava with water pouring in between was definitely not something I had ever seen before. The colors, the width of the falls, the sound: i loved it all.

2. Aldeyjarfoss

Just 45 minutes upstream from Goðafoss, you will find this impressive waterfall. It's at the entrance to the highlands and the surroundings are beautiful. It's beautiful to walk around in the area and get close to the waterfall itself.

3. Dynjandi

If you have not seen this waterfall in real life, you just can not imagine how massive it is. You have to see this one with your own eyes. It is amazing.

4. Hengifoss

The hike up and down takes about 2-2,5 hours, so make sure you have enough time here. But it is worth it. I love the red rock stripes next / behind the waterfall.

5. Svöðufoss

Only a short hike from the parking lot you get to enjoy a view over the waterfall and Snæfellsjökull in the background. This is one of my favorite views (when the weather is right). The waterfall itself is not extremely special, but the view behind it is amazing.
