Did you know Iceland is one of the safest countries on earth? And that's only one many reasons why it is the best country for solo travel.
Let's start with some numbers: Iceland not only ranks number one as the safest country in the world, it is also the most gender equal and most peaceful country in the world. And there are no scary or poisonous animals that can kill you!
Iceland is also in the top 5 of least densely populated countries, so if you need a place to unwind: this is it.
All of this makes it the perfect country for a (female) solo traveler!
Because there are so few people living in Iceland, there is also not a crazy amount of traffic. So driving around is very easy. The best way to see Iceland is by car. Solo road trips are my personal favorite! You can find great car deals (and you'll even get 5% discount if you use my link) here: Blue Car Rental.
If you don't want to drive everywhere by yourself, you could also check out samferda.is. On this website you can find fellow travelers that want to share a ride. It's very common to do this in Iceland.
Public transportation is not great in Iceland. So unfortunately this is not the best way to see Iceland. Of course you can still take busses and travel around that way, but be aware that this will take a lot more time.
I've made a list of my favorite places to stay while solo-traveling. There are several hostels, but also some really nice guesthouses that you could consider on your solo trip. Just like in any other country, hostels are great places to meet new people, but be aware that hostels in Iceland can still be quite pricey (like everything else in Iceland). So don't expect a cheap backpack experience. But you'll have an amazing experience nonetheless.
You can find the list of hostels / guesthouses and some of my favorite tours in this free itinerary.
If you want to have a chat about your solo trip to Iceland, because you are unsure how things work in Iceland and you just need a real person to answer your questions face to face (via Google Meet), I have good news for you:
I also offer video calls! In case you want to book one, you can do that here.
Looking forward to talking to you about your best holiday ever!
