Car Rental
Car Rental
All ages
This is the only paid tunnel in Iceland at the moment. You can register your car through the app "Veggjald", or you can pay through their website before or after using the tunnel. Don't forget to pay for the tunnel, because your car rental might charge you a high price if you pay later.
In summer I would always recommend taking the scenic route via road 83 (not the tunnel), because driving through the tunnel only saves you about 10 minutes. So if you have enough time and want to enjoy the view, take road 83 in stead.
In wintertime (if there's a lot of snow) road 83 is often closed and it is best to take the tunnel
The 7.4km long Vaðlaheiðargöng tunnel serves as a shortcut between the towns of Akureyri, Eyjafjörður an Fnjóskadalur, cutting down around 16km from the journey.
