Grey Mountain Road is a 3.1-mile out-and-back road just 5 minutes from downtown Whitehorse, Yukon. Perfect for hikers, bikers, sightseers, skier's and snowshoer's alike, Grey Mountain Trail offers stunning views from the summits of the three peaks - enjoy sights of the surrounding area and don't miss 'the cave' located on the south side at the end of the ridge. Be sure to take a four-wheel-drive vehicle up the forest service road, and pack bug spray! A beautiful hiking trip full of evergreen forests, wildflowers, and hardy mountain terrain await adventurers with heads in the clouds and feet on the ground — traversing Grey Mountain Road is definitely an unforgettable experience.

Eryn's Tips:

  • Grey Mountain offers so many trails you really can't go wrong with any of them. If you are wanting to do something relaxing on a nice summer day, driving up the road to the top viewpoint is a great option to get amazing views of Whitehorse and the surrounding area :)

  • There are TONS of trails up on Grey Mountain, all you need to do is drive up the road and park at one of the many pull offs to decide which route you would like to take! We love to walk and bike off of the Magnusson trail and will often walk the dog up the road in the winter (the road is only plowed to a certain point in the winter months so don't try to drive all the way up in the winter! You will get stuck).

  • BRING BEAR SPRAY, especially in the spring. There are many black bears that spend their time on Grey Mountain and we have bumped into a few on our evening walks!

  • There are cross-country ski trails in the winter up at the top of the road as well which are super fun and take you up to the Yukon River :) I would recommend having your dog on a leash by the river though as the ice doesn't fully freeze and it can be quite dangerous with the current!
