The Forbidden City in Beijing, China, is a massive imperial palace complex that served as the residence of Chinese emperors for over 500 years.

About the Forbidden City

Built from 1406 to 1420, this place was off-limits to everyone except the emperor, his family, and eunuchs – hence the name "Forbidden City." With its grand architecture and rich history, it's now a popular tourist attraction and a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has become symbolic of both the city, and China as a country.

Getting a ticket to the Forbidden City

Tickets will often sell out online weeks in advance online, but not to worry. Foreign tourists are semi exempt from this due to the udnerstanding that wechat is not a common app outside of China, so if you go to the main ticket office, you can get a ticket on the day. Just make sure to bring your passport!

Getting to the Forbidden City

The palace sits right in the heart of Beijing and is easily reached by either cab, bike, or metro.
