The Putangirua Pinnacles are a stunning natural wonder known for their dramatic, towering rock formations that look like giant stone pillars. These incredible structures were formed over thousands of years as erosion slowly shaped the soft layers of sedimentary rock into what we see today.
On my visit, the trail was closed, but I’ve since read that only certain sections are currently off-limits, so it’s definitely still worth checking out. There are two main trails that provide the best views of the Pinnacles, the shorter one called the Pinnacles Walk is about 1.5 km and gives you a great view from the base, while the longer 3.5 km trailcalled the the Putangirua Pinnacles Track takes you up to the lookout, offering even more spectacular views from above.
This is a destination I wish I had more time to explore, the rock formations look so cool and unique, explore them on my behalf please!
