Drago Vaia – A Unique and Photogenic Sculpture
The Drago Vaia is an impressive wooden dragon sculpture which was created as a tribute to the destruction caused by Storm Vaia, which hit the region in October 2018. The storm caused extensive damage to the forest, and the dragon was built to symbolize rebirth and resilience, with the fallen trees being transformed into art.
However, the original dragon that I photographed no longer stands—it was tragically set on fire. But don't worry! A new dragon has since been constructed. It's even larger than the first one and still made from the same wood, continuing the story of transformation from destruction to beauty.
How to Get There
There is a parking lot near the sculpture, making it easy to access. From there, you can take a short hike to reach the dragon, which is only about 20 minutes on foot.
the parking fee for the day is 3€

A Great Photography Spot
The Drago Vaia is an incredible photo spot, especially during sunset when the warm light highlights the wooden structure against the dramatic sky. I visited during sunset, and it was truly magical to capture the dragon with the beautiful lighting. It’s one of those spots where you can get creative with your shots and take some really unique photos.
Whether you're a photographer or just someone who appreciates art and nature, the Drago Vaia is a nice spot in the Dolomites. It’s not only a symbol of strength and recovery but also an awesome place to take some unforgettable photos.
