The Ōpārara Basin Arches, located in the remote Oparara Basin of New Zealand, are an amazing natural formation. This collection of limestone tunnels are created by the Oparara River and are large enough to fit multi-storey houses! Two of the most renowned arches include the 'Oparara Arch' which is highly impressive due to its measurements of 200 metres long, 49 metres wide, and 37 metres high, and the 'Moria Gate Arch', which is smaller but still beautiful at 19 metres wide and 43 metres long. The journey up the forestry road from the main road takes visitors to the modern open shelter and toilet facilities before reaching the arches. From here, walks of around an hour return can be taken to each of the awe-inspiring arches. Not only are the arches magnificent to behold, but there are mountain bike tracks, a lake, and fascinating wildlife nearby that make it well worth the visit!
