Tanzania is one of THE most popular safari destinations in the world and with good reason!

Here's why Tanzania is a fantastic destination to go on safari:

The wildlife & landscapes:

  • Tanzania is home to the Big 5!

  • Tanzania is also home to the Tiny 5 and the Ugly 5!

  • You can also see the rare black rhino, cheetahs and wild dogs.

  • You can witness one of nature's most impressive spectacles, The Great Migration, where over one million animals migrate through the Northern Safari Circuit, moving into Kenya!

  • Expect to see a lot of wildlife across the plains and bush, close up and from a distance!

  • Witness the Wildebeest calving season where thousands of baby zebras and baby wildebeest are born every day.

  • The parks in Tanzania are huge, so expect vast landscapes and plains.

  • It's home to the iconic Serengeti National Park and the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Ngorongoro Crater.

  • Mount Kilimanjaro is located in Tanzania and is part of the Northern Safari Circuit.

  • The landscapes are so diverse, and often beautiful! From the towering Mount Kilimanjaro to the sweeping plains of the Serengeti savanna.

    The safaris:

    • There are 3 'safari circuits' in Tanzania, the Northern, Southern and Western.

    • The most popular location for a safari in Tanzania is the 'Northern Safari Circuit' which includes parks such as the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater.

    • The Southern and Western regions of Tanzania offer more remote safaris that are 'off the beaten track', with far fewer crowds, but with that often comes higher prices.

    • Northern Circuit safaris start from the town of Arusha.

    • You can combine a Tanzanian safari with a beach holiday to Zanzibar.

    • You can combine a Tanzanian safari with climbing Mount Kilimanjaro if you're looking for something more adventurous!

Location & weather:

  • Tanzania is located in East Africa and is bordered by Kenya and Uganda in the North, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi to the West and Mozambique, Malawi and Zambia to the South.

  • The capital city of Tanzania is Dodoma city.

  • Tanzania also boats the Zanzibar Archipelago, home to stunning pristine white sand beaches and some of the bluest waters you have ever seen!

  • There is a dry season and a wet season in Tanzania. The most popular time to go on safari is during the dry season, as the bush is thinner, the grass is shorter, therefore the wildlife viewing becomes easier!

  • The wet season is Tanzania's summer - expect higher humidity, higher temperatures, rain and therefore more mosquitoes! The dry season is Tanzania's winter, so expect cooler temperatures, no rain and less humidity!

  • Kilimanjaro International Airport is the closest airport to the town of Arusha which is where you will most likely fly into if you are embarking on a safari in the Northern Circuit or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
