Cascade Kauri in Waitākere Ranges has re-opened after six year restoration effort!!
The Cascade Kauri Walk in Waitākere, Auckland, is a beautiful reserve with multiple walking track options 🌳. It has a few stairs, but it’s mostly flat, making it a relaxing nature walk. Along the way, you’ll pass some lovely waterholes, get cool views of the dam, enjoy a scenic boardwalk, and generally experience a peaceful, quiet atmosphere. 🌿
The short route takes a few hours, while the longer loop can take 3-5 hours. The paths are mostly gravel, with a few steep sections. While there aren’t many views during the walk itself, the view of the dam is definitely a highlight 🌊.
If you’re doing the full loop, it’s recommended to go anti-clockwise—this way, you’ll end with a nice, gentle stroll down by the stream 💧. There are clean public toilets right at the car park, as well as at the top of the dam. No toilets along the tracks, so be prepared! The route is mostly shady, and you’ll pass many impressive Kauri trees along the way 🌳.
Perfect for a peaceful nature escape!
“We’re so pleased to welcome back visitors to Cascade Kauri, but we do ask everyone to respect the site by washing your footwear and equipment on entry and exit, and by sticking to the designated walking areas.
“Cascade Kauri and the wider Waitākere Ranges Regional Park are taonga to Tāmaki Makaurau, and together we can take measures to protect the ancient kauri within them.” - DOC
