Is it Mars or is it North Wales? Exploring Parys Mountain definitely feels like you've stepped onto another planet!

North Wales is full of quarry and mining history and we love exploring old ruins and quarries - but this place was unlike anything we have seen before. The vast barren looking hills of bright orange and brown set against bright purple heather with the backdrop of the ocean is something I will never forget. The landscape and history here is fascanating and there's loads of different trails to explore - meaning you can experience these views in a short, less than 1 hour walk or spend all day exploring.

We visited on a very wet, very windy day (definitely one for a calmer day if possible as there is little to no shelter from the wind up here) so we stuck to a short 2km route which was a perfect length for the kids whilst still taking in the views and even a trig point.

Anglesey, Wales, is a historic site known for its copper mining activities dating back to the Bronze Age. The mountain, more of a hill really, was once the largest copper mine in Europe during the 18th century, dominating the world's copper market. Today, visitors can explore the remnants of the mine and enjoy scenic views of Amlwch Port. With ongoing exploration efforts, there are hopes of restarting mining operations to extract valuable minerals from the mountain's depths. The unique landscape of Parys Mountain has even been featured in sci-fi films and TV shows, adding to its allure as a fascinating destination for history buffs and nature enthusiasts alike.
