Mensaje de Adam Gibbs

One of the most beautiful waterfalls on Vancouver Island, Payzant Creek, feels more like a hidden grotto than a traditional waterfall. A couple of small cascades flow through the centre, framed by moss-covered cliffs and lush ferns—a perfect example of the West Coast rainforest's wild, untamed beauty. A massive fallen tree arches over the gorge, making it one of the most photogenic spots along the Juan de Fuca Trail.

There are also lower falls downstream, which are not quite as striking but still worth exploring.

Getting There

Take Minute Creek Forest Service Road off West Coast Road. You'll find a parking area at the bottom of the hill with access to the Juan de Fuca Trail. From there, hike north about 2km to Payzant Campground, where you'll find the creek.

A heads-up: The trail is muddy and extremely slippery, so watch your step!
