Common questions I get is regarding safety. Is it safe to travel alone? What should I think about? I didn’t experience any issues at all but here are some tips and tricks to make your stay as safe and pleasant as possible:

  • Don’t walk around alone (especially as a woman) after 22:00 pm

  • Be careful about your belongings at crowded places as parties, festivals etc

  • While Zanzibar is generally safe, it’s advisable to avoid isolated areas, especially at night. Stick to well-populated and well-lit areas.

  • Share your itinerary with someone you trust. Keep them informed about your plans and whereabouts, especially if you’re exploring remote locations.

  • Have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and potential unforeseen circumstances.

  • Plan solo activities during daylight hours. Group tours can be a great way to explore, and you can meet fellow travelers.

  • Always prioritize your safety and well-being. While some beach boys* genuinely provide valuable services, exercising caution and being aware of potential scams or illegal activities is essential.

*In Zanzibar, the term “beach boys” is often used to refer to local individuals who may approach tourists on the beaches, offering various services or products. It’s important to note that experiences with beach boys can vary widely, and not all encounters are negative.
