Obligatory stamp on train ticket
When you’re taking a regional train in Italy, you need to validate your ticket before you board in specific machines that are located all over the train stations. The reason you need to validate the tickets is because regional train tickets do not have a specific date and time, therefore you need to validate it so that it "stamps" on it when you have gotten the train.
Once you validate your ticket, it’s good for 4 hours. There are no seat reservations on regional trains and no discounts for buying them in advance.
