The Grotta della Poesia is an incredibly popular beach in Puglia located on the east coast, 45 minutes from Lecce. With its crystal blue water and picturesque rocky shore, it's easy to see why many make the journey to swim and soak up the sun here. Originally, this beach was home to an archaeological site that dates back 3,500 years. In 2019, swimming and sunbathing were prohibited in order to help protect the natural beauty of the location and preserve the significant historical values found within the complex. Visitors can still explore Roca Vecchia Archaelogical Site, which includes Grotta della Poesia, Piccola Grotta della Poesia, the Madonna of Roca Vecchia Tower, and Charles V's coastal defence fort. The experience is enriched when taking part in guided tours, which are included in the entry price of €3 per person.
For lunch I would grab a sandwhich somewhere and enjoy it directly at the grotta.
