Message from Elisa in Iceland

This black church is not very well known, so if you want to photograph a black church that is a bit more of a hidden gem, this is the place to be! It is located in a cliff, so the view from there is beautiful as well.

The church that now stands in Sjávarborg is the oldest type of Icelandic wooden church. It was designed by Ólafur Guðmundsson from Húsey and built in 1853. The church was rebuilt in 1973-1975 and rededicated in 1983. The church bell rope handle is a bit of a weird one. I think it's made of a turkey foot...
