The Ryan Premises National Historic Site, managed by Parks Canada, offers a deep dive into the rich maritime history of Newfoundland and Labrador. The site features a collection of white 19th-century clapboard buildings, perfectly preserved and perched along the historic harbour, where the salty scent of the sea fills the air.

As you wander through the Ryan Premises, you'll be greeted by knowledgeable interpreters who bring the history of the site to life. Many of these guides have personal ties to the fishing industry, adding authenticity and depth to the stories and facts they share.

At the heart of the site is the Bonavista Museum, home to a fascinating array of artifacts that showcase the daily lives, tools, and traditions of Newfoundland's fishermen and their families. Each item tells part of the story, from rugged life at sea to the community activities on shore.

Another highlight is the “Cod, Seals and Survivors” exhibition, an internationally recognized display that spans the 500-year history of the east coast fishery. This exhibition not only covers the economic and social impact of fishing but also delves into the ecological aspects and the future of this critical industry.
