Triftbrücke is located in the breathtaking Berner Oberland region of Switzerland and offers outdoor activities for the whole family. The main attraction is the incredible Triftbrücke suspension bridge, a daring 170 meter long crossing that gives visitors an unforgettable view of the nearby Trift Glacier and Lake. Hikers can enjoy the challenging trail to reach the bridge, as well as a picturesque detour to Windegg Mountain Hut for lunch.
HIKE DETAILS:
Take the bus to Nessental, Triftbahn. Start at Triftbahn Gadmen and take the cable car up. I recommend to book the cable car online as it is a busy location and can sell out fast on site.
The hike is 5,4 km round trip. It can take 1,5 and 2 hours to reach the hanging bridge. Once you reach the bridge you have this amazing view of the thrift glacier that sadly slowly disappearing. Below the bridge you have the turquoise colour lake. Cross the bridge, it's an exhilarating feeling.
Once you make your way back on the bridge you can start your way up towards Windegg Hut where you can enjoy some rest with lunch or refreshment.
Fun Fact: The Trift bridge was built in 2004 as the glacier was no longer big high enough to access the Trift hut (that remains close in 2024 and 2025) The Rift bridge was modelled after Nepalese high wire bridges. In 2009 they replaced the bridge with a safer version, which considered is one of the highest and longest suspension bridge in the alps.
The hike is 6 km long with ascent of 695 meters. Total hours can vary, depends on pace can take 3 to 4 hours.
