Geysir is a geyser situated in southwestern Iceland. It is renowned for its uniquescience of eruptions and calls itself the “First Known Geyser to Modern Europeans” as it has been observed since ancient times due to its perpetual boiling water activities and its tremendous heights of up to 70 metres when erupting. From its earliest records in 1294, locals have observed changes in landscape due to earthquakes in the area, forming interesting patterns of new hot springs. Despite becoming dormant in years after 1916, Geysir roared back to life in 1935 due to man made experiments, and its current eruption frequency can reach up to 8 times per day with every eruption an exciting event to watch!

From Fluðir, take route 30 north for 25 minutes (about 28 km). From the south and from Hveragerði, take route 35 north for about 75 km. Finally, from Thingvellir, the 365 then the road 37 leads to Geysir in 45 minutes to cover the 60 km which separate the two sites. This access is the most direct access from Reykjavik also for tourists spending a day in the Golden Circle.
