The hike to Himmeltinden offers a challenging and scenic adventure in the Lofoten Islands, showcasing stunning views of the surrounding landscapes, including the pristine Haukland Beach and the rugged coastlines of Utakleiv. As the highest peak on Vestvågøya, Himmeltinden promises an unforgettable journey through steep trails, grassy slopes, and rocky sections, culminating in panoramic vistas that stretch across the dramatic scenery of the Lofoten.

Starting point: The hike begins at Haukland Beach. Follow the E10 towards Leknes, then follow the signs to Uttakleiv Beach. After turning onto a narrow side roads, you’ll soon reach the bay at Haukland Beach. Parking is available at the paid parking lot (40 NOK/6 hours) or for free at one of the few spots at Vik Beach. Coordinates for Google Maps: 68.199379, 13.532091

Route: Cross the road and follow a gravel track initially blocked by a gate, marking the beginning of the ascent. After about 500 meters, a narrow path branches off to the left, leading steeply uphill along grassy slopes. The trail zigzags sharply, making its way up the hillside. The climb is physically demanding, with some sections requiring hands-on scrambling, especially if the trail is wet or muddy. Within approximately 30 minutes, you'll reach a saddle, where the terrain levels out briefly, offering stunning views over the coastline and a glimpse of Utakleiv Beach. From this point, turn right onto a marked trail that heads toward Himmeltinden. The trail becomes increasingly rugged, winding through rocky and boggy sections. You'll traverse exposed patches and slippery mossy rocks, so caution and sturdy footwear are essential. The ascent intensifies as you approach the final section. The summit climb involves navigating loose rocks and a few scrambling sections, but the well-trodden path is clear, and the effort is well worth it. Upon reaching the summit, you're rewarded with a panoramic view of the surrounding islands, dramatic mountain peaks, and the North Atlantic Ocean.
