Gyles Campground is a hidden gem on the banks of Simonhouse Lake, offering excellent opportunities for swimming, boating, hiking, and wildlife spotting.

Best Things to Do at Gyles Campground

  • Relax on the gorgeous sandy beach—the clean, refreshing water will remind you of an ocean getaway. Bring floaties or a paddleboard for extra fun! Plus, there’s a dog-friendly beach area for those traveling with pets.

  • Fishing on Simonhouse Lake, along with paddleboarding, boating, canoeing, and kayaking.

  • Families will love the kid-friendly playground, making this an ideal camping destination for little ones.

  • Wildlife watching and photography—look out for moose, black bears, bald eagles, beavers, and otters. Early mornings and evenings are the best times for sightings.

  • Stargazing and northern lights viewing—with minimal light pollution, this is a prime spot for catching the aurora borealis (best from late August to early March).

Where to Stay

  • Gyles Campground (seasonal camping - late May to early September ). View the campground map here.

  • Wekusko Falls Lodge (about 1 hour drive away) offers cabin stays.

Where to Eat

There are no restaurants or stores nearby—bring all necessary food and cooking supplies. Campfires are allowed in designated pits, but fire bans may apply, so check before visiting. A camp stove is a good backup. The nearest town for groceries is Snow Lake (about 1 hour drive away).

What to Know Before Visiting

  • Gyles Campground is remote—bring all essentials, including food, fuel, and emergency supplies.

  • Limited or no cell service. Consider bringing a GPS or offline maps.

  • Summers can bring mosquitoes and black flies, so pack bug spray and a bug net.

  • Black bears are common—store food properly and carry bear spray.

  • A Manitoba Parks Pass is required for entry. Purchase online or at a park office before arrival. (Not applicable for 2025)
