Buying tickets

You can see Swiss public transport timetables and buy tickets on the SBB website and mobile app: https://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html

You can also buy tickets at automated machines at the train station. If you aren't sure which ticket to buy, we suggest visiting the ticket desks at larger train stations.

Ticket types

When purchasing on SBB.ch, you will see many Travel options for your ticket. Unless you have a discount travel card, you will usually purchase a Full Fare “Point to point” ticket.

The Saver Day Pass and Supersaver Ticket may be cheaper but come with restrictions. Do not buy these versions unless you understand and accept the terms of these discount tickets.

The "Half Fare" option refers to people that have a SBB Half Fare Travelcard, which gives them a discount on train travel.

Seat reservations

If you are traveling a busy route, you can purchase seat reservations up to 1 day in advance. Learn more.

Children tickets

Children under 6 travel free with a parent. Children aged 6-15 are half-price.

For children aged 6-15 , you can purchase the SBB Junior Card for CHF 30, which allows them to travel on all public transportation and most mountain railways with a parent holding a valid ticket. Learn more. Note: this is not necessary if you have the Swiss Travel Pass or Regional Travel Pass.

Saver Day Pass

For one specific day, unlimited travel by train, bus, boat, trams all over Switzerland and up to 50% discount on most mountain railways. Can buy 2 months in advance starting at CHF 59. Great for when you have a fixed transfer day between your hotel and airport. Learn more
