This trail starts in the Refertas area of Porto da Cruz and takes hikers on a journey through Madeira’s unique flora and fauna, highlighting the island’s natural beauty and traditions.
In the first part of the hike, you’ll see the impressive Penha d'Águia Rock and charming villages with picturesque buildings. You can also admire the small agricultural fields, carefully tended by local residents.
As you continue, you’ll enter an area with lush vegetation, including native plants such as holly, barbusano, and laurel trees.
At the end of the trail, you’ll reach a beautiful spot with small pools of crystal-clear river water. Take your time to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and have a short break. After recharging, it’s time to return along the same path.
Please note that this is not an official PR trail, so there is no entrance fee, but keep in mind that during winter months—when rainfall is more frequent—there is an increased risk of rockfalls and landslides in this area.
Please note that during this hike there are sections which may be challenging for people with vertigo, and not all parts have a security fence.
