Planning a trip to the Dolomites? One of the most common questions we get is: “How do I actually get there?”

🌍 Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE)

Car Rental: ~3 hours

Train + Bus: Venice Mestre to Bolzano (3.5 hours) + 1-hour bus to Ortisei

Costs: Train tickets ~€25-35, bus ~€10

🌍 Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP)

Car Rental: ~4.5 hours

Train + Bus: Milan Centrale to Bolzano (4 hours) + 1-hour bus to Ortisei

Costs: Train tickets ~€40-50, bus ~€10

🌍 Innsbruck Airport (INN)

Car Rental: ~2 hours

Train + Bus: Innsbruck to Bressanone (2.5 hours) + 1-hour bus to Ortisei

Costs: Train tickets ~€30-40, bus ~€10

🌍 Verona Villafranca Airport (VRN)

Car Rental: ~2.5 hours

Train + Bus: Verona Porta Nuova to Bolzano (1.5 hours) + 1-hour bus to Ortisei

Things to Keep in Mind:

🚗 Driving is the fastest option and gives you flexibility to explore scenic mountain passes. Make sure your rental includes snow tires or chains in winter. We definitely recommend renting a car!

🚉 Italian and Austrian train systems are reliable and scenic. Book tickets early for the best prices.

🚌 Local buses are affordable and connect major hubs like Bolzano and Bressanone to Ortisei. If you don’t mind scheduling your hikes around the bus schedules, this may work for you.
