Lilydale Falls is a delightful gem nestled in the picturesque Lilydale region of Tasmania. I stumbled upon these falls because the car park doubles as a free campsite, making it an excellent base for exploring the area and just a short drive from Launceston. It’s worth noting that this site can get quite full, so try to arrive early if you want to snag a good spot.
The short walk to the falls is a treat in itself. The 1.5-kilometer return trail is easy and perfect for a relaxed stroll, making it accessible for everyone. As you wander along the path, you'll find yourself immersed in lush forest, with the trail gently following the creek and offering plenty of opportunities to soak in the natural beauty. The main cascade, known as the ‘Upper Falls,’ gracefully tumbles over rugged rocks, creating a spectacular display of nature’s power and artistry. Just a bit further, the lower falls provide a more tranquil setting where you can unwind and enjoy the serene surroundings.
The campsite itself is fantastic, combining the convenience of a free stay with the beauty of two easy-access waterfalls surrounded by verdant forest.
