Can I pay with a credit card? Are ATMs available?

The local currency is Tanzanian Shilling (TZS), but USD is widely accepted. It’s advisable to carry cash for small purchases in local markets, as credit cards may not be accepted everywhere. Some restaurants/cafeterias accept card payments, but in my experience, most do not. Therefore, it’s best to always have cash with you.

If you pay with Visa there is a 5 % charge added. ATMs are available in every big village and no problem to find in Paje or Stone Town.
