If you think you won’t have enough time to visit Kawagoe after Nikko, it’s best to dedicate half a day to it the day before or on another day.

🚆 How to get there?
From Tokyo (Ikebukuro Station): Take the Tobu Tojo Line to Kawagoe Station (~30-45 minutes, 500 JPY round trip).
From Shinjuku: Take the JR Saikyo Line or JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line to Omiya, then transfer to the JR Kawagoe Line (~55 minutes).
