Dawson City is a vibrant town with a long and colorful history. Located in the Yukon Territory of Canada near the junction of the Yukon and Klondike Rivers, it is best known for its role in the Klondike Gold Rush of 1898-1899. Its population more than tripled during that time to a peak of 17,000 people in pursuit of gold. Since then, Dawson City has seen various booms and busts, but still retains its vibrant atmosphere and charms visitors with its rich stories and unique landscapes. Visitors enjoy exploring the historic downtown area and admiring the variety of architecture, as well as sampling local seafood delicacies. The city is well-known for its scenic beauty, and activities such as fishing, hiking, and camping are popular. Year-round cultural events round out the experiences that Dawson City has to offer.

Eryn's Tips:

• Dawson City is amazing in the summer and I would highly recommend driving up from Whitehorse. You will see beautiful views along the 5 hour drive and will head up north where the sun is out all night long.

• If you have time, I would recommend crossing the river on the ferry and driving up the Top of the World Highway (if you plan on driving the whole thing, make sure you have a passport as it does go into Alaska).

• On your way back to Whitehorse, make sure you turn off down the Dempster Highway and drive to Tombstone Territorial Park!

• Dawson is located in a protected area so in the summer it is often HOT with very little wind which makes it such a nice escape for Whitehorsian's like me who may want to get away from the ever present wind. Prepare for it to be nice and warm if you're visiting in the summer!
