Schäfler is beautiful mountain range in the Appenzell region. It is a very impressive mountain with views all over, definitely worth to add it on to your hiking list.

HIKING DETAILS:

Start at Wasserauen and take the cable car up to Ebenalp. From here continue your way towards Schäfler. There is a restaurant called Schäfler where you can stop and enjoy some coffee or even some lunch with the best view of Säntis and Seealpsee.

From here you can either hike back the same way or down to Seealpsee or continue your way towards Mesmeralp. This is exactly I would recommend you to do if you are looking for some very scenic mountain views.

The trail between Schäfler restaurant and Mesmer alp at some places are narrow but nothing you can't do.

At Mesmeralp you can take another breather, enjoy the scenery before you start your descent towards Seealpsee and back to Wasserauen trainstation.

Its is a long day hike but for the views it is totally worth the effort.

Distance : 14,6 km. elevation gain is 890 meter. Time on the trail 5,5 hours - 6 hours.
