The Glasgow Necropolis is a Victorian cemetery in Scotland that sits on a prominent hill east of Glasgow Cathedral. Established in 1832, it was one of the first cemeteries in Britain to allow burial for profit. With around 50,000 individuals laid to rest here, the cemetery boasts impressive monuments and sculptures, including the iconic statue of John Knox. The layout of the Necropolis resembles a park, with paths winding up to the summit where grand memorials stand. It's like a city of the dead, as described by some, and holds the graves of notable figures like shipbuilders, poets, and even a magician.
