My first visit to Kaminari Falls was in winter, and I was absolutely blown away by the breathtaking view. The waterfall, completely frozen and still, presented a stunning contrast to its name—“Kaminari,” which means thunder in English. The sight of ice cascading down in serene silence was mesmerizing, almost like a beautiful paradox.

Behind the waterfall, there’s a spacious cave that allows visitors to pass through and catch a glimpse of the falls from a unique perspective. However, I must warn you that it can be a bit dangerous in winter due to icy conditions, so I highly recommend staying out of the cave for your safety.

When I returned in summer, the experience was just as magical, albeit in a completely different way. I ventured further behind the waterfall, which leads down to a fantastic viewpoint. This spot is perfect for capturing the entire scene in a photo or video, showcasing the majestic falls in all their glory. It’s a wonderful escape from the summer heat, where you can enjoy the refreshing mist from the 30-meter drop while soaking in the vibrant greenery around.

Overall, this is a great place to cool off or simply marvel at nature's beauty. If you decide to go in winter there could be a possibility that the trail is closed due to heavy snow. Regardless, be prepared with the right clothing and equipment for the season.
