Oh, the waves and island adventures come at a cost!

From countless reef cuts to the frequent tummy troubles and hard-hitting colds, my island journey in Siargao has had its fair share of health adventures. While pharmacies exist on Siargao Island, the med supply here can be island-limited and often runs out of stock.

To make sure you’re well-prepped, here’s a must-have first aid kit checklist before traveling to small islands in the Philippines:

  1. Wound Spray: First things first, keep those reef or scooter accident cuts clean and disinfected!

  2. Antiseptic Wound Healing Cream: Absolutely must, must!

  3. Waterproof Bandaids: Surf-proof your wounds with these essentials.

  4. Imodium Akut: For emergency fixes when you need to travel.

  5. Activated Charcoal Tablets: While a standard in Bali, nonexistent in Siargao.

  6. Ibuprofen 400: Ideal for tackling inflammation and pain.

  7. Paracetamol: Classics for familiar comfort during weaker moments.

  8. Throat Lozenges: I don’t know what to tell you, the ones available on this island are just like flavored candy.

  9. For my fellow Germans „Zwieback“ (Double Toasted Bread): Not exactly medicine but my best friend when I have tummy troubles.

  10. Chamomile Tea: Also not medicine, but a rare and expensive product on this island!
