The hike to Ryten is one of the most popular and rewarding hikes in Lofoten. The summit offers breathtaking panoramic views of Lofoten’s rugged mountains and coastline, with a particularly stunning perspective of the secluded Kvalvika Beach. This hike provides both a challenge and a reward, as you’ll be treated to dramatic vistas of turquoise waters, steep cliffs, and the dramatic peaks that define the Lofoten landscape.

Starting point: To reach the trailhead for Ryten (or Kvalvika), you need to drive from the E10 towards Fredvang over the Flakstadbru bridge. From the bridge, continue straight for 3 km (passing Fredvang), until you reach the road FV806, where you must turn left to the Innersand parking lot. This parking lot is paid and costs 100 NOK, which also includes the option to park overnight, along with access to fresh water and a toilet. Route: Once you park, follow the well-marked trail, which starts by crossing a farmer's field before quickly ascending through scenic terrain. Be prepared for some muddy stretches, especially if it has rained recently, but the trail is well-maintained and offers a solid footing with the help of trekking poles. As you climb, the trail becomes steeper, and you’ll pass through rocky sections and small lakes. Some areas have chains to assist with the climb. Once you reach a ridge beneath the summit, you’ll be treated to incredible views. From here, you’ll have to choose between descending to Kvalvika Beach or continuing to the summit. Opting for the ridge route to the top, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular vistas, but the terrain can be steep and slippery. At the summit, the panoramic views of Kvalvika Beach and the surrounding mountains are simply unforgettable.
