If you really want to go to a sand beach consider this one. It's a fairly long stretch of black sand and this is also the hot spot for surfing lessons. If that's something you'd like to try this is the place to go. In Porto da Cruz right next to the beach, you have Madeira Surf School where you can book a surf lesson.
