What you’ll do

This itinerary explores the popular Jungfrau Region near Interlaken. For each day, I've included activities in one mountain area in this region.

I think 3-5 days is the perfect amount of time in the Jungfrau Region. If you stay 7-10 days, I would add days from my Bernese Oberland itinerary.

I've included one day on each mountain area in the Jungfrau Region:

  1. Grindelwald First

  2. Mürren-Schilthorn

  3. Schynige Platte

  4. Männlichen

  5. Jungfraujoch

  6. Pfingstegg

  7. Lauterbrunnen Valley

I include options for different kinds of travelers: hikers, non-hikers, and families. Some days include a lot of activities. If you want a more relaxed pace, spread the activities over multiple days.

Please note the closing times and organize your itinerary carefully so you aren't stressed rushing from one thing to another.

Day 1: Arrival

From most other destinations in Switzerland (like Zurich, Lucerne, Zermatt), it takes about 2-3 hours by train or car to reach the Jungfrau Region.

If you are traveling in the morning, you'll probably have time in the afternoon for a short activity. It's probably best to choose something near your hotel.

Otherwise, exploring the Lauterbrunnen valley and its waterfalls is an easy choice.

Where to stay

For this itinerary, we suggest staying in Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, or Wengen.

We also love Mürren and Gimmelwald, but they are less convenient because you have to take a cable car down the mountain to access other areas.

Interlaken is convenient since it's close to a main transportation hub, but not quite as charming as the others.

Explore Lauterbrunnen valley

Exploring the Lauterbrunnen valley and waterfalls only takes about 2-4 hours. So you could do this on your arrival day or add them onto any day where you have extra time.

Suggested for:

This is a good option for those on a budget because it doesn't require any expensive cable cars.

Good for a cloudy day since many of the charms are at lower elevations, often below the clouds.
