And what we recommend
We absolutely recommend getting a car- you don't want to be timing your hikes out with the bus schedules in our opinions! However, if you really don't want to get a car, there is nice public transportation (that will just require some more planning):
Traveling the Dolomites without a car is entirely possible and stress-free with the region’s excellent public transportation. Buses and trains connect major towns and trailheads, making it easy to explore this stunning area. For a central and convenient home base, Ortisei is the best choice. Located in the heart of Val Gardena, Ortisei offers easy access to iconic hikes like Seceda and Alpe di Siusi, as well as plenty of restaurants and accommodations. From Ortisei, you can hop on local buses to nearby attractions or take cable cars directly to breathtaking mountain trails. With its charm and connectivity, Ortisei is perfect for a car-free Dolomites adventure!
