The fossil cliffs circuit on Maria Island is a 4.5km Grade 3 loop that takes your from Darlington to the Fossil Cliffs and then back around to the settlement.

The cliffs contain fossils from around 300 million years ago, the richness of which is one of the finest examples anywhere in the world. Even if you're not an archaeology lover we highly recommend checking this place out, it's pretty cool to see the fossils up close!

While you can walk the track we opted to ride bikes which you can hire through the ferry provider Encounter Maria for $33 a day or $25 per day for 2 days or more (you need book bikes at least 24 hours in advance of your departure). It was such a fun way to see the island and get some exercise in at the same time!
