Handies Peak is a popular 14er in Colorado, known for its stunning views and challenging hike. It's a great choice for adventurous families and kids looking to tackle their first big peak. The trail can get steep towards the top, so be prepared for a workout! Just remember to start early to avoid those pesky afternoon thunderstorms. Oh, and don't forget your 4WD vehicle to navigate the rocky road to the trailhead. Happy hiking!
4x4 required to get to the American Basin Trailhead, however there are two alternative routes that don't require a high clearance 4x4, Grizzly Gulch and Grouse Gulch. My favorite route is via American Basin, as the flowers are stunning in the summer, and it takes you by Sloan Lake.
