Sipapu Bridge is a natural arch located in the Natural Bridges National Monument in Utah. It spans White Canyon and was once thought to have a span of 268 feet, but a more accurate measurement revealed it to be 255 feet. Visitors can view the bridge from a roadside viewpoint or take a short hike down to its base. The name "Sipapu" comes from the Hopi word for a symbolic portal where the first human ancestors emerged.
Natural Bridges National Monument is such an underrated park, and would highly suggest stopping by if you're in the Mexican Hat area. Located in SE Utah with close proximity to Goosenecks, Lake Powell, Monument Valley, Bears Ears, and Valley of the Gods, Natural Bridges is home to three large natural bridges, ancestral sites, and was designated the world’s first “International Dark Sky Park.”
🎟️ $20 OR National Parks Pass
🐶 Permitted on leash on paved trails ONLY // NOT permitted on any hiking trail
⏰ How much time do you need? It can be done in a very busy half or full day.
FULL DAY:
📍Natural Bridges Loop
🥾 8.6 mile LOOP hike // the hike itself won’t take a full day, but you’ll want to enjoy stops along the way
📈 ~ 600 ft gain
💡 This hike will take you under all three major attractions and along two canyons with rock art and dwellings.
HALF DAY: Hike all Three Bridges individually or a shorter loop. Shorter hikes between Kachina and Sipapu (5.7 miles round trip) and Owachomo and Kachina (6.5 miles round trip) are good options for hikers with limited time, as are the trails that descend from the rim to each of the bridges.
📍Sipapu Bridge — 1.2 miles RT
📍Kachina Bridge — 1.4 miles RT
📍Owachomo Bridge — 0.5 mile RT
💡 Don’t be fooled by the distance, each trail requires you to descend and ascend from and to the Mesa top.
PASSING THROUGH:
Each Bridge has a paved and ♿️ accessible viewpoint around 10 minutes each.
With massive rock arches and canyon feels that are similar to Escalante, this is such a bang for your buck. Have you been? Kachina won me over by a landslide. ✨
