Message from Hello Mallory

Moqui Marbles are one of my favorite features in Escalante and my daughter loves looking for them out on hikes. PS - its a great incentive for toddlers if you need a bribe.

WHAT ARE MOQUI BALLS?

Moqui marbles are small, brownish-black balls composed of iron oxide and sandstone that formed underground when iron minerals precipitated from flowing groundwater.

These are found all over Utah but most commonly in Escalante and around Zion. My favorite places in Escalante to see them are Zebra Slot Canyon and along Spencer Flat Road.

REMINDER - collecting is illegal in State Parks, National Parks, National Monuments, and Native American Reservations. They are best kept where you found them for others to discover and witness, too.
