The Matterhorn Mill, also known as the Valley View Leasing and Mining Company Mill, is a historic flotation mill near Ophir, Colorado. Built in 1920 and renovated in 1961, this 96-foot-tall structure played a key role in processing ores before they were sent off for final processing. With its unique design by Walter L. Reed and construction by Otto Beselack, the mill stands as a reminder of Colorado's mining industry history. Today, efforts are underway to restore and preserve this century-old landmark for public enjoyment and education.
This is probably one of my favorite mining structures to capture in the fall, as the teal accents contrast beautifully with the aspens.
**PLEASE DO NOT ENTER ANY MINING STRUCTURE. THESE STRUCTURES CAN BE EXTREMELY UNSTABLE AND DANGEROUS TO ENTER. PLEASE ENJOY SAFELY FROM A DISTANCE.**
