The Blasket Islands are a stunning archipelago off the west coast of County Kerry, Ireland. Situated in the Atlantic Ocean, these uninhabited islands are home to an abundance of wildlife and 13 species of breeding seabirds, making it an ideal destination for nature-lovers and adventurers alike. The population of Great Blasket Island peaked at 175 inhabitants but sadly had to be evacuated in 1953 due to population decline. However, their legacy lives on thanks to gifted Irish language writers who documented the tradition, culture, and way of life of this extraordinary place for generations to come. Exploring the untouched lands of this mesmerizing archipelago is sure to create memories that will stay with you forever!
So, about this island: you know you can actually wild camp here? there's an air bnb too (without electricity) but staying on the island was pure magic, falling asleep to the sound of seals and waking up to them was pure magic.
Don't forget, keep your distance from the seals, they are super sensitive to human movement and you don't want to scare them into the sea.
Keep an eye out for basking sharks at the end of april and dolphins/whales the rest of the time. Minke whales, common and bottlenose dolphins are regularly spotted around here.
