McDermott's Castle is a castle and protected national monument located in County Roscommon, Ireland. It is thought to date as far back as the 13th century and boasts an impressive 16th-Century tower house. This impressive structure was restored in the 19th century and become a spectacular summer residence that has withstood the test of time. The castle stands on the scenic Castle Island, situated in the southeast corner of Lough Key. In its long history, McDermott's Castle has seen numerous dramas, from lightning fires and siege warfare to royal defeats and ancient poetry. Today, visitors can explore the picturesque island and appreciate this enduring Irish castle.

In Lough key you can rent kayaks and pop across to the island or around it, keep an eye out for the swans.
