Doune Castle, located in central Scotland near the village of Doune, is a medieval stronghold with a rich history. Built in the late 14th century by Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany, it served as a royal retreat and hunting lodge for Scottish monarchs. Over the centuries, it saw military action during various conflicts, including the Jacobite risings. Despite falling into ruin by the 18th century, restoration works in the 1880s brought it back to life. Today, maintained by Historic Environment Scotland, Doune Castle welcomes visitors to explore its well-preserved structure and learn about its fascinating past.
