Urquhart Castle, located by Loch Ness in Scotland, is a cool old ruin that dates back to the 13th to 16th centuries. It played a role in the Wars of Scottish Independence and was even raided by the MacDonald Earls of Ross. The castle was granted to the Clan Grant in 1509, but conflicts with the MacDonalds continued. Despite being strengthened over the years, it was mostly abandoned by the 17th century. In 1692, parts of the castle were destroyed to prevent use by Jacobite forces. Today, it's a popular tourist spot and one of the most-visited castles in Scotland.
