Hakuba Yari Onsen Mountain Hut is a unique retreat located on the slopes of Mount Hakuba Yari in Nagano Prefecture, at an altitude of 2,100 meters (6,890 feet). This mountain hut is renowned for its open-air hot spring baths, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and skies. It’s a seasonal destination, open from mid-July to late September, catering to hikers seeking both adventure and relaxation.
Access
The nearest trailhead is Sarukura, with a hike of approximately 4-5 hours via Kohinata Col to reach the hut.
Along the trail, hikers are treated to stunning alpine scenery and seasonal wildflowers, making the journey as memorable as the destination.
Hot Spring Features
The open-air baths are mixed-gender, with designated hours for women only.
From the baths, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of iconic peaks and a spectacular starlit sky at night.
The spring’s mineral-rich waters are classified as a carbonated sulfur spring, believed to benefit nerve pain, skin conditions, and diabetes.
Accommodation
The hut accommodates up to 100 guests and includes space for 30 tents in the camping area.
Prices start at 16,000 yen per night, including two meals. Student discounts are available.
Advance reservations are recommended, as walk-ins may incur additional fees.
Important Notes
The hut is dismantled and rebuilt annually, closing during the winter months.
