Ueda is a sleepy city and most things are quiet...but there is always a line here!
This place sells a type of Japanese traditional sweet called Jimanyaki - it's like a sweet pancake mix with a filling inside. There is custard and red bean flavor and both are really delicious. The also have soft serve ice cream which I've used before to cool my mouth from the hot sweets.
This place is very original and super popular with the locals and people will buy these in the dozens as gifts for family and friends. When I was living in Ueda just a year ago these little things became an almost weekly go-to on the way home from my language school.
Fun fact: these were just 70 yen each! They are now selling for 100 yen each which is still wonderful value.
