Katla Ice Cave is an awe-inspiring destination located on the south coast of Iceland, next to an active volcano. It’s a natural wonder that takes visitors into another world with its vast and ancient tunnels and caves filled with black ice and blue ice carved and encased in layers of volcanic ash. Katla can be accessed from Vík and it's best to travel with a knowledgeable tour guide who will equip you with the necessary equipment and navigate through the stunning icy trails. Tours are 3 hours long and include stops for sampling the Icelandic national spirit brennivín with ice from the cave as well as exploration of smaller ice caves nearby. The so-called ‘dragon glass’ in these caves is truly mesmerising and you don’t want to miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime experience!
