Soho is a vibrant district in the City of Westminster, London. It has been one of London's premier entertainment districts for centuries. Originating as farmland owned by Henry VIII, it was developed and turned into a fashionable area for the aristocracy in the 17th century. By the 19th century, however, the upper classes had mostly moved away and Soho had become an Entertainment District as well known for its sex industry as it is for its theatres and music venues. The area boasts a rich culture with diverse restaurant dining, independent British film industry headquarters, and the popular Old Compton Street which is home to the city's gay community. With regular entertainment offerings and a host of unique attractions, it's no wonder that Soho has a long-standing reputation as London's fun, exciting, and colourful neighbourhood.
