Mayfair is an affluent and vibrant area of London, located in the heart of the city's West End and bordered by Hyde Park, Oxford Street, Regent Street, Picadilly and Park Lane. The area is known for its luxurious housing, upmarket shops and restaurants, and luxury hotels along with its cultural attractions. It has also been immortalized as the most expensive property square on the Monopoly board. Mayfair has a long history stretching back to Roman times. The annual May Fair was held here during the reign of Edward I, and it was subsequently developed into expensive residential areas during the 18th century by the Grosvenor family. In the early 20th century, many of the houses were turned into embassies and corporate headquarters - yet it still retains its opulent status today!
